Your First Wax…
Let’s talk hair removal
So your new to getting waxed. Welcome!
Those awful things you hear about waxing and you’re thinking to yourself there is noooo way I'm ever gonna get waxed. Then you think...It's so painful! Those weird positions! ANNDD I have to get naked in front of a stranger?
Well, yes and no.
The first step is finding a clean, fast and experienced waxer. Friend referrals and reviews help with decision making. Now, you will feel a bit uncomfortable the first time but if you have a good waxer she will know how to make you forget that your bottoms are off in front of a stranger.
Next, there is no such thing as a “pain-free” wax but there is such a thing as a comfortable one. Think about it. Why do so many women do it? It’s a tolerable experience. An experienced waxer will know how to create that. And, if you’re wondering why the weird positions, it’s because it prevents the skin from lifting or bruising. This is also allows the hair to be pulled at the root preventing breakage.
Recommendations before you wax:
I recommend using a dry brush to exfoliate your skin the day before you wax. This will prep the skin by removing dead skin cells and loosen up the hair.
Two ibuprofens up to a half hour prior to your appointment will alleviate some discomfort.
Let your hair grow out about 1/4 inch (length of a piece of rice) for proper hair removal.
You can use a numbing cream but please let your esthetician/waxer know so she can clean properly and reduce any type of reactions. I’m not a fan of numbing because you won’t be able to tell the temperature of the wax.
BREATHING has been part of my go to technique. I “coach” you through your breathing while removing each strip. This always seems to get a great response. This also reduces tension which automatically creates discomfort.
If your pain tolerance is low you can also take baby steps. I always suggest starting with a basic bikini first. Then tell your waxer how you're feeling and the next time you can take off a little more and work your way up to taking it all off.
So, why wax?
Hair becomes finer and sparser
Hair grows back slower
Maintenance is easier
Skin keeps its integrity as oppose to shaving
Shaving leaves stubble
You don't have wax again for another 4 to 6 weeks
You feel groomed
You feel sexier!
Self care is part of loving yourself first.
